CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) is Spain’s largest public research institution, and ranks third among Europe’s largest research organization. CSIC supports research and training across a wide range of knowledge, from the most basic or fundamental aspects of science to the most complex technological developments; from human and social sciences to food science and technology, including biology, biomedicine, physics, chemistry and materials, natural resources and agricultural sciences. CSIC produces 20% of the national scientific output (more than 12.000 ISI paper in 2014).
The host Department of Population Studies belongs to the Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography (IEGD). The Research Group on Demographic Dynamics is part of this Institute, one of the six research institutes of the Center for Human and Social Sciences (CCHS) of CSIC. The CCHS, which is known for its high-profile scientific contributions, was created in 2007 and hosts more than 200 researchers in almost all the fields of human and social sciences.
The research undertaken by the Research Group on Demographic Dynamics covers a wide range of population issues, including:
- family dynamics
- migration and migrants
- health and mortality
- ageing and living conditions
- historical demography
Our research places special emphasis on the interplay of various life-course transitions and on the social context of demographic processes. We are particularly interested in the influence of gender relationships and social policy on demographic behavior, and on the impact of population trends on economic and social well-being. Most of our work has a comparative perspective, and it mainly focuses on Europe and Latin America.
Currently, the Group coordinates 3 European projects:
- LONGPOP (MSCA-ITN): http://longpop-itn.eu/ which aims to train a new generation of early-stage researchers, who are in their first four years of research with no PhD awarded, with innovative and creative skills to face nowadays challenges
- SEU-FER (MSCA-IF)
- ECHO (ERC-Advanced Grant)
CSIC offers optimum research facilities and is well prepared to support the fellow in technical, administrative and financial regards, including training in transferable skills and outreaching activities. The practical financial and administrative management of the project will be supported by Vicepresidency of Scientific and Technical Research through the Service of European Programmes with ample experience in the management of EU projects. The CSIC holds one of the most essential libraries for the fellow's research (in CCHS). The Center is well connected to other research groups.
