Topic
Throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic, researchers have been widely requested to contribute scientific evidence about various aspects of the pandemic, including their long-term social consequences. However, in many cases, advice had to be given tentatively and with an understanding of uncertainty due to not only a lack of sufficient data but also to the nature of science itself. What are the lessons learnt from previous months? How has the role of research in the policy arena changed during the pandemic? How can we increase trust in the public role of scientists even if we have to deal with uncertainties? How can we ensure that the expertise of researchers is readily available for evidence-based decision-making in future crises?
