Deadline

11–12 March 2027, University of Bamberg, Germany

Heatwaves, extreme weather events, and their health consequences do not affect everyone equally: age, socioeconomic status, and social support play a crucial role in determining who is particularly vulnerable. The workshop brings together researchers from environmental sociology, inequality research, ageing research, demography, social epidemiology, and public health to discuss the measurement of heat exposure, social vulnerability and resilience, and approaches to prevention. It aims to foster exchange across disciplines and career stages, to discuss methodological standards for measuring climate-related exposures, and to evaluate potential contributions of sociology to prevention and public debates on climate change and its impacts for health and ageing.

We invite abstracts for our workshop. Papers should make a clear conceptual or methodological contribution, or provide impetus for stakeholder engagement. We encourage submissions from students and early career researchers, as well as from scholars at risk.

Please express your interest in the form of an abstract (max. 500 words) by 15 December 2026 to Sandra Jaworeck (sandra.jaworeck@uni-bamberg.de) and Ariane Bertogg (ariane.bertogg@uni-konstanz.de).

Acceptance notifications will be sent by December 23rd.
