For the first time since the Second World War, the number of refugees has exceeded the 50 million mark worldwide. Many of them are trying to enter through EU-borders on a daily basis. How to control borders on a European level and how to manage migration flows has turned into a big discussion and a challenge for European immigration policies, not to mention the debate surrounding the role of human rights.

All those topics will be discussed with eminent demographic researchers and experts from the Population Europe network at the conference "The Stranger among us. Immigration Policies and Social Cohesion in Europe”, held in Rome, on 30 October 2014. the conference is organised in cooperation with Sapienza University of Rome and Neodemos under the patronage of the Senate of the Republic of Italy.
