Population Europe sadly announces the passing of Professor Dr Janina Jóźwiak, Ordinary Professor and Former Rector of the Warsaw School of Economics, on 19 July 2016.

In addition to her outstanding research work and scientific achievements, her great support for the next generation of demographers and her commendable community service to the Polish academic world, Janina Jóźwiak was an active member in the European demography community, e.g. as President of the European Association for Population Studies (2003-2008), Vice President of the Council of Advisors of Population Europe (since 2009) and member of the Scientific Board of the European Doctoral School of Demography (since 2005).

She was also a highly demanded expert by European institutions, such as the European Commission and the European Research Council.

European demographers and the field of demography have suffered a great loss – the loss of a great researcher, an engaged advisor and a good friend. Our deepest condolences are with the family and the colleagues of Janina Jóźwiak.
