Winners of the 2020 EAPS Awards

News: European Association for Population Studies Awards

On 15 October 2020, the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) presented their annual awards.

The EAPS Award for Population Studies went to Elizabeth Thomson from the Stockholm University Demography Unit for her impressive career spanning more than 30 years. "Prof. Thomson has made a major contribution both in her own research area, and also to the wider discipline", said the jury.

The Dirk J. van de Kaa Award for Social Demography went to Daniele Vignoli from the University of Florence. "His work is innovative both theoretical and methodological".

Martin Kolk from the Stockholm University Demography Unit received the Trailblazer Award for Demographic Analysis. According to the jury, "Martin is a creative scientist with trailblazing contributions to the social sciences".

The Jan M. Hoem Award for Social Policy and Family Demography was awarded to Trude Lappegård from the University of Oslo. Said the jury, "Trude has made ground-breaking scientific contributions to social and family demography".

Finally, the winner of the Outreach Award for Communication in Population Science was Liili Abuladze from Tallinn University, for her Demotrends website and Twitter account. "Liili has demonstrated outstanding commitment to scientific outreach and community engagement in a variety of ways".
