The new issue of the Journal of Population Ageing is a collection of articles from a number of different authors focused on the Active Ageing Index. It includes the following articles from several of our Partner Institutes:

Submit your paper to Neodemos's award for young scholars “Neodemos e i giovani”. All individuals born from 01.01.1981 onwards can send an original article until 31 March 2017.  Papers should cover a population issue, and scholars from all disciplines are invited to apply. This issue defines vulnerability as a key interdisciplinary concept for understanding life trajectories. Moreover, it develops a life course framework to study vulnerability along three structuring axes of research: multidimensionality, multilevel, and multidirectionality.

This paper starts with a short review of the growing literature on the topic of older migrants, particularly in relation to this population’s diversity, social vulnerability, loneliness, (transnational) care and support networks. It then introduces the collection of papers of this special issue by proposing an approach to studying older migrants as social actors who develop strategies to surpass vulnerabilities. Older migrants mobilise their resources while taking into account structural opportunities and restrictions from the meso and macro levels.

 In recent years, leading representatives from science, politics and society have been promoting the idea that the ageing of society is a chance that should be used. Not only is the overall life expectancy continuing to increase, there is also the possibility to live longer in good health. Even more people will be able to work longer and be more active in their free time.

In the current edition of Deutsche Welle's TV magazine "Global 3000", Harald Wilkoszewski (Population Europe Brussels Office) explains the role of demographic factors behind the presidential elections in the United States and the Brexit referendum in the United Kingdom.
