The Council of EAPS has the pleasure to invite nominations for the various Awards which will be presented at the upcoming European Population Conference 2018 in Brussels! 


Nominations for the Awards should reach EAPS by 1 April 2018 at the latest!


Nominations are invited for the following Awards:


The EAPS Award for Population Studies, which honors groundbreaking original contributions to the study of population with far reaching implications for our discipline and our understanding of population dynamics and their consequences. There are no specific age /career or other criteria for candidates, but they should be member of EAPS. Candidates should be nominated by peers or can be invited by the Jury/EAPS Council.


The Dirk J. Van de Kaa Award for Social Demography, for outstanding achievements by an individual scholar in social demography, and the interplay of population dynamics and social change. Candidates are early/mid-career scholars with at least 5 years of experience after their PhD and should be member of EAPS. Candidates may nominate themselves or may be nominate by others.


The Trailblazer Award for Demographic Analysis, for outstanding achievements by an individual scholar in the development and application of the methods of demographic analysis, including mathematical and bio-demography. Candidates are early/mid-career scholars with at least 5 years of experience after their PhD and should be member of EAPS. Candidates may nominate themselves or may be nominated by others.


The Jan M. Hoem Award for Social Policy and Family Demography. This Award honors outstanding achievements by an individual scholar on the intersection of social policy and family demography. The Award has been initiated by the Nordic Demographic Society to celebrate Jan M. Hoem’s (1939-2017) achievements in advancing Nordic and European family demography and social policy research.


The EAPS Outreach Award for Communication in Population Science. EAPS attaches great importance to the communication  of population science. We highly value all efforts of researchers to share the scope, relevance and outcomes of population studies/demography with audiences within and also outside academia. Emphasizing that these efforts are serving the public good, the EAPS Outreach Award  celebrates public engagement with population research.


The Gunther Beyer Award. As a tribute to one of the founding fathers of EAPS, this prize is awarded for the best paper by an early career scholar at each European Population Conference.
