Tick Tock, the Biological Clock?
People stop having children earlier than their biological clocks warrant. One of the reasons for the discrepancy between potential and achieved childbearing after age 40 could be social stigma. A study by Francesco C. Billari, Alice Goisis, Art C. Liefbroer, Richard A. Settersten, Arnstein Aassve, Gunhild Hagestad, and Zsolt Spéder documents the existence of social age deadlines for childbearing across Europe. At what age would you say a woman or man is generally too old to consider having any more children?

Books and Reports: Family Policy And Demographic Change (EESC Opinion)
Family policies do not fall within the remit of the European Union. Nevertheless, the EU may enact legislation on balancing work and family life, equality at work between women and men, and child protection and development, recommends the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). In their report “Family Policy and Demographic Change” the EESC also suggests a better coordination of family orientated initiatives and funding arrangements on the EU level.
