News: Population Europe at the 2019 PAA
This year, Population Europe will be travelling to Austin, Texas to participate in the Population Association of America's annual conference. We will be there to meet with members of our network, learn about the ongoing research happening in the field of demography, and, most importantly, to help keep people updated with what is going on at the conference through our tweets.

It is with great sadness that we announce her passing
Population Europe was saddened to hear that Dr. Véronique Hertrich passed away. She was supportive of our Network and was a member of our Council of Advisors. We send our condolences to her family, friends, and her colleagues at INED.   Official Announcement from INED Ms. Hertrich joined INED in 1992, while she completing her PhD thesis on the Bwa people of Mali, a population group she would follow for more than a quarter of a century.

News: Alberto Palloni to Join the Spanish National Research Council
Press Release: Alberto Palloni will coordinate a new ERC Advanced project at CSIC that will demonstrate the theories linking developmental biology, epigenetics and human health and mortality

Palloni will join the Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography (IEGD) thanks to the support of the European Research Council (ERC) through an Advanced Grant called ‘Early conditions, delayed adult effects and morbidity, disability and mortality in modern human populations' (ECHO).

The winners of the Allianz European Demographer Award 2019 are Ridhi Kasyhap from Oxford University and Bruno Arpino from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

The winners of the Allianz European Demographer Award 2019 are Ridhi Kasyhap from Oxford University and Bruno Arpino from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. The awards were handed out in the light of the opening of the Berliner Demografie Forum 2019 in Berlin.

Oxford University will set up a new Centre for Demographic Science with £10 million funding from the Leverhulme Trust. In their announcement, the Trust states: "Demographic research aids society, government and industry to prepare for demands related to population growth and shrinkage, climate change, migration, longevity and ageing, fertility and household change. Our aim is to build an internationally-recognised centre of research excellence that will disrupt, realign and raise the value of demography."
